What is a UPS Delivery Notice

What is a UPS Delivery Notice When a UPS driver attempts to deliver or pick up your package but cannot reach you, they will leave a UPS Delivery Notice to inform you of the unsuccessful delivery or pickup attempt. What exactly is a UPS Delivery Notice, and what should you do next?

A UPS Delivery Notice is a paper slip that a UPS driver leaves when they cannot complete a delivery, usually because the recipient was unavailable. The notice includes important information such as the time and date of the delivery attempt, whether another delivery will be attempted, whether the package was left at a UPS Access Point, and instructions for rescheduling delivery or picking up the package. The notice serves as a record of the delivery attempt and a guide for the recipient on how to retrieve their shipment.

All UPS Delivery Notices have the same text, and the driver may check one or more boxes relevant to the delivery. The first two boxes inform you whether another delivery attempt will be made (“We’ll try again on the next delivery day”) or whether you need to pick up your package from a UPS pickup location (“We’re taking your package to a UPS pickup location to keep it secure”).

The column on the left below informs you of any specific delivery requirements: signature required, adult signature required, or COD payment due (with the amount specified). The next column informs you if this was a pickup attempt or the third and final delivery attempt, in which case the package will be returned to the sender.

What should you do if you come home to a UPS Delivery Notice? If UPS is going to make another delivery attempt and you want the package left at your house, sign the delivery notice and return it to where the driver left it. There is a special place reserved for the signature. Note that packages requiring an adult signature cannot be released and require someone aged 21 or older to accept them.

If your package has been taken to a UPS pickup location, track it to confirm its status is “Awaiting Customer Pickup” and its whereabouts. Scan the QR code on the notice, or visit ups.com/track and enter either the original tracking number of your package or the UPS Delivery Notice number, which can be found at the bottom left of the notice.

The tracking information should include the address and operating hours of the pickup location. It is recommended that you pick up your package the day after receiving the delivery notice to ensure that it is ready. While you don’t need to bring the delivery notice, you will need a valid government-issued photo ID and the package’s tracking information. In some cases, you may need to provide proof of the original delivery address, such as a utility bill confirming your residence. The package will typically be held at the pickup location for seven calendar days before being returned to the sender.

You can also use the UPS website (ups.com/track) or your UPS My Choice account to reschedule the next delivery attempt or redirect your package to another UPS location for pickup.
