How to Ship a UPS Package from Home
Sending packages can be time-consuming, especially if you need to ship multiple packages at once. Fortunately, most major carriers offer customers the ability to ship packages from home, saving you time, effort, and money. Let’s find out how to ship a UPS package from home.
First, you need to get a box that will hold the contents of your package. If you already have a sturdy box, you can use it as long as it does not have any old stickers, labels, or branding. If you don’t have a box, you can order free shipping supplies from the UPS website or from your local UPS Store. Choosing the right box size is critical ensuring that your items arrive in good condition. While a snug fit may seem ideal, it’s often too small because you need room for packing and cushioning materials.
Cushion the contents of your package to prevent damage. Bubble wrap and foam peanuts are common options, with the amount needed depending on the item. Small fragile items may require individual packing; you can place each item in a smaller inner box or wrap them in bubble wrap. Carefully arrange the items inside the box and add more cushioning if there is any space left. Seal the package with strong packing tape; regular Scotch tape will not work.
Once your package is ready, you’ll need to measure and weigh it because the weight and dimensions of the package will affect your shipping charges. You will then need to create and print a shipping label for your package. The shipping label contains all the important delivery information, including the recipient and return addresses, and proves that you have paid for shipping.
You can print a UPS shipping label on the UPS website or use a shipping service such as PostageMaker. The biggest benefit of using PostageMaker or a similar service is shipping discounts: our rates are up to 50% lower than UPS retail rates.
To print a shipping label with PostageMaker, you need to sign up for the service, add funds to your account in the system (we accept credit and debit cards, PayPal, Bitcoin and USDT), and fill out an online form that requires you to enter the sender and recipient information, specify the package weight, and select the shipping carrier (in this case, UPS) and service. When filling out the recipient info, keep in mind that UPS does not ship to P.O. boxes. Payment for the label is automatically deducted from your PostageMaker account.
Once your label is generated, you need to print it and affix it to the package. Now all that’s left to do is hand the package to UPS for delivery. You can leave the package at the nearest UPS drop-off location, but if you want to literally send it from home, you have two options: hand the package to a UPS driver on his or her daily route or schedule a package pickup. Scheduling a pickup is not free, but it gives you the option of choosing a convenient time rather than having to accommodate driver’s schedule.
When shipping UPS packages from home, remember that it is the shipper’s responsibility to comply with laws and regulations regarding prohibited and restricted items. UPS prohibited items in the U.S. include items prohibited by law, currency, human remains, marijuana (including medical marijuana and CBD products), postage stamps, vape products, and some others. The complete list of prohibited and restricted items can be found on the UPS website.
Certain items (very fragile, very large, unusually shaped) may be difficult to pack on your own and are better shipped from a UPS location, where an employee will help you pack your item safely and securely.
